Purchasing a Billiard Table for Your Home

If you are one that has enjoyed billiard and Pool for most your life and are now considering purchasing a table, you'll need to understand some basic billiards table manufacturers and maintenance. You'll also want to understand where to purchase supplies, what type of tables are manufactured, how to know a good used table, and how much space you're actually going to need for your billiards table.

If you live in a large enough area there might be a billiards supply store within reasonable distance, if so, that should be your first stop before ever purchasing a table. You'll be able to the test supplies, understand manufacturers, cue sticks, cue tips, and even the variety of different quality of balls to play with. It's important that you have some basic understanding about the manufacturers and how it affects the price of your billiard table as well as your supplies and equipment.

If you do not have a billiards supply store within reasonable distance, you can learn a lot on the Internet. But in truth, the best information is going to come from those who actually use the equipment. Stop by a few different taverns, pool halls, youth centers and senior centers to see what type of equipment they have, how old it is, and how long it lasted. You'll also want to discuss with these types of places, what kind of maintenance and repair they have found to keep the equipment in the best condition.

Once you've played on several different manufactures tables, and of course with a variety of different balls, you can begin to decide what you would like to purchase for your own home game room. Your billiards table is rather large and you need to decide whether you have room for the 6 by 12 billiards table, or the 5 x 10 billiards table. The space you have in your room is going to decide the table size. It's important that you have enough room to move comfortably all the way around the table, and also you want to lay your sticks with the tip at the edge of the felt, and stretch them flat out behind you. You want to make sure there's enough room for the game to be played and accurate without adding in funky angles.

Now that you've decided on the billiard equipment and the table that you'd like to purchase, it's time to start shopping. Remember, you can find the same equipment and the same supplier, and even the same table at many different websites, stores, and even secondhand. You'll need to understand the basic values of these items in order to shop, and comparison shop to find the best price on your billiards equipment.
